Windows 7, the long awaited and anticipated replacement for Microsoft's Windows Vista will be on the store shelves October 22, 2009 according to information released in the Windows 7 Team blog from Microsoft's Brandon LeBlanc on June 2, 2009. In the blog post there was a mention of a Windows 7 Upgrade Option Program which will allow you to replace your current version of Vista with the Windows 7 equivalent version. There were prices posted for the upgrades.
The Upgrade Option Program may even be free to purchasers of computers bundled with Vista delivered from June 26, 2009 through to January 2010, although Microsoft has not confirmed this. There is speculation from the tech industry that Microsoft will release this upgrade under conditions similar to the Windows XP to Vista upgrade, which included low cost and no cost upgrade options. Since not all computer manufacturers will take part in this program you might want to ask before you buy your new PC if it will be included in the upgrade options program. If you've been delaying the purchase of new computers until Windows 7 is available you'll be able to act now without fear of losing an easy and affordable upgrade path to the new system. |
